Oh hi! I’m Rachel

As a writer, I’m often asked to include a short bio under each published piece. This is challenging for me on so many levels. First of all, you’re asking me to write something SHORT?! ABOUT MYSELF?! Impossible.

But more importantly, like all great stories, mine is a constant work in progress. How am I to sum up my life when I live an ever changing story?

The easy answer is: I can’t. The more difficult answer is: keep editing. As Brené Brown says “We are the authors of our lives…story is our way home.”

So in that case, welcome to my home! Let me show you around…

I was born and raised in Kansas, fell in love at Valparaiso University, found my vocation in Chicago, started my family in a little apartment in the big city, followed adventure to Austin, Texas, and now my roots plant firmly in lovely Minneapolis, MN with my three kids and handsome co-pilot of a husband. I have a Masters in Child Development and spent my a decade helping the families of young children as a child development specialist. Now, with the chance to care for my own, I am learning how to apply this knowledge through the daily joys and challenges of motherhood.

If you are into personality tests I am an introverted, Highly Sensitive, INFP, Enneagram 9 type of person. Which basically means I love to be alone, I feel all the things, I am a scattered free spirit, and I love to bring peace to any situation. Essentially none of these characteristics are ideal for motherhood but that’s what makes our stories interesting, right?

Things I hate: cleaning my house (good thing I married a clean person,) bathing my children, and buckling kids into car seats, which is why I do everything I can to walk/bike/train it to all my errands with a podcast in my ear. Things I love: good food (bad food is pretty good too,) a well mixed cocktail (Aviation is my fave,) any book you tell me to read, and a good craft every now and then.

Oh, and also writing. I discovered the passion with the first push of the publish button on my blog in 2013 and the love has stayed true. My writing is done in the in between space of my day and often with a babe at my feet. But it always feels worth it because…

this is my story, the one I get to create.

One last thing…No matter what you hear about introverts, we still love our friends! Come say hi!
